Tamriel
It's the olden days, no cars and no electricity. To the people of Tamriel in the continent of Atmora it is the third century of the forth era, rooms are lit by sun light at day and candles by night, the fastest way to travel was by horse if you were wealthy enough to buy one (not many people were) and the life expectancy of all people is short. This is the time to be alive because of two corresponding events; the Great Civil War and the Dragon Crisis. Both of these events will be remembered forever and written about throughout time. During this time, the people of the Holds Eastmarch, The Pale(Whiteshore), the Rift, and Winterhold rose up and revolted against the Imperial Empire--calling themselves the Stormcloack Rebellion. The people who stayed with the Empire lived in the Holds named Haafingar, Hjaalmarch, The Reach, and Falkreath Hold. The only neutral area would stand at Whiterun. Will you pick a side and fight in the civil war or will you join another faction? While Tamriel is dividing, the Dragon Crisis began, during which dragons returned to Tamriel to everyone's shock. No dragon had made an appearance on the entire continent of Atmora for over a thousand years. Its first appearance would be at Helgen (in Falkreath), during which the dragon destroyed the entire town and killed nearly everyone there. On top of everything, a common enemy of all Tamriel is taking this time of chaos and bloodshed to their advantage. The Thalmor Embassy seeks to unify all of Tamriel through one-government leadership, with elves holding all places of power.

Holds in Tamriel
Holds are the nine administrative sections of Tamriel. Scattered across the rugged landscape are five major cities and four minor ones, as well as minor towns, villages and settlements(not all are shown on the map). The presence of more numerous and smaller cities gave the land a more natural, rural feel. Where will your journey begin?
Note: Although each hold is on a side (with an exception to Whiterun), they all have both an Imperial and Stormcloak military camps
Hold Name: The Pale (Whiteshore or Old Holds)
Side: Stormcloak Rebellion
Jarl: Skald the Elder
Capital Symbol:
About: The Pale is located in the central northern area of Tamriel and extending to the northern coast where the capital city Dawnstar is situated. The hold borders Hjaalmarch to the west, Whiterun to the south, and Winterhold and Eastmarch to the east. The Pale is one of the four oldest holds in Tamriel, known collectively as Old Holds. Its unique shaoe resembles that of a boot. Most of this region is treacherously cold, pine forests stand straight facing the harsh winds whipping down the mountains, residing in perpetual snow and ice. Only the southernmost part of the hold towards Whiterun becomes grassy plains. Dawnstar is a relatively small garrison town and the trade center of the region. It is also one of the most northern cities in Tameriel along with Solitude and Winterhold; consisting of two rival mines, a small dock, and few residents. Yet, this area has very high rates of dragon activity. In this hold there is a singular farm called Loreius Farm.
Notable Settlement(s): Dawnstar Sanctuary(abandoned Dark Brotherhood) and Nightgale Inn(in between Dawnstar and Windhelm)
Hold Name: Falkreath
Side: Imperial Empire
Jarl: Siddgeir
Capital Symbol:
About: Falkreath Hold is the second southernmost hold in Tamriel, its capital being Falkreath. It borders Cyrodiil to the south and Hammerfell to the west, with a single road leading to both provinces. Other than its capital, the other notable town is Helgen, the first settlement in Tamriel to be attacked by a dragon. This hold is covered in characteristic pine forests and described by its citizens as being covered in a fine mist that makes it seem seasonless. The mountains rising above Falkreath are well above the snow line striking a stark comparison to the rest of the hold. The most distinguishing feature is Lake Ilinalta which covers a large portion of the central region and acts as the source for the White River.
Notable Settlment(s): Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary(main headquarters)
Jarl: Igmund
Capital Symbol: Ram's head
About: The capital of The Reach was originally an ancient Dwemer(extremely technologically advanced elves) city, still holding its old name: Markarth. This hold is infamous for harboring the Forsworn who are fighting a long war of independence to retake Markarth from the Nords (main Stormcloak race) and free it from Imperial authority, also a common enemy to all of Tamriel along with the Thalmor Embassy. The Forsworn are the Reach's most common enemies and dwell in the majority of it locations, thus making The Reach considered the most dangerous hold of Tamriel. The Reach covers much of the western border of Tamriel, with High Rock and Hammerfell to the west. These are the Highlands of Tamriel; a rugged environment with a few flat clearings, dotted with juniper trees and rich in valuable ores--especially silver. Surrounding holds include Whitrun to the east, Haafingar past the mountains to the north, and Falkreath to the south-east. Much of this hold is dotted with caves and mines along with the singular farm with the name of Salvius Farm.
Notable Settlement(s): The Coven of Namira's Headquarters, Sky Haven Temple(the Blade's Headquarters)
Hold Name: Hjaalmarch
Side: Imperial Empire
Jarl: Idgrod Ravencrone
About: Hjaalmarch is one of the smallest holds, the Hajaal River running through large portion of it. The capital of Hjaalmarch is Morthal, a small city near the center of the dense marshlands. This hold is located in northern Tamriel, at the mouth of the Karth River. Hjaalmarch borders Haafingar, separated by the Karth River to the northwesst, The Reach to the west, Whiterun to the south, and The Pale to the east. Much of the terrain is covered by wetlands, marches, and swamps which are infested with vampires. Morthal is often shrouded in a thick fog, and ominous twisted trees grow from the surrounding marsh. The capital is foreboding to travelers approaching it, and the torches of the town glowing in the fog, often give the impression of wisps at a distance--many travelers stay clear of the place altogether. Morthal is shrouded in mystery, its people are reclusive and wary of newcomers--only a single lumber camp supports its weak economy. The Jarl of the hold is among the most relaxed in Tamriel when it comes to taxation, but Hjaalmarch is also the poorest of the nine holds. The hold is still part of the Empire, but Idgrod is unapologetically vague in her enthusiasm for the Imperial Legate stationed in her dwelling. A number of the people in the city are concerned about the prospect of the war since it brings outsides. Most would rather the conflict were kept outside their home, leaving them free to purse their own interests.
Notable Settlement(s): N/A
Hold Name: The Rift
Side: Stormcloak Rebellion
Jarl: Laila Law-Giver
Capital Symbol: two crossed daggers.
About: The Rift is the most southeastern of the holds in Tamriel, bordering Morrowind to the east and Cyrodiil to the south. It is one of the four oldest holds, known collectively as Old Holds. Major settlements include their capitol Riften, the town of Ivarstead, and Shor's Stone. Much of The Rift is composed of lush autumn-colored valleys and rivers, surrounded by mountains to the south, east and northwest. The Rift is located atop an immense vertically ridge that clearly separates it from Eastmarch to the north, Whiterun to the northwest, and Falkreath to the west--the western mountain range south of the Throat of the World goes along its border with Falkreath, making it one of the most isolated holds in Tamriel. This hold is teeming with wildlife both docile and hostile, serving as an excellent hunting ground--encounters with hunters and poachers are common. Bears, sabre cats, and wolves make a common practice of hiding in the foliage and jumping out at unsuspecting travelers. With that makes traveling through The Rift very arduous(lots of hard work) and time consuming. In addition, the dense forest and uneven terrain make landing places for dragons few and far between, meaning that even if you were to see a dragon it will fly away without making any damage.
Notable Settlement(s): Thieves Guild Headquarters.
Hold Name: Haafingar
Side: Imperial Empire
Jarl: Elisif the Fair (widow)
Capital Symbol: Wolf's head
About: Haafingar at one point was an ancient Nordic kingdom, but now a hold of Tamriel. It is located on a peninsula on the far north-west coast, and encompasses the area surrounding its capital city, Solitude. Solitude is the jewel of Imperial Tamriel, it is both a reinforced and breathtaking stronghold. Its name is ironic due to the fact that eighty percent of the hold's population lives in the capital city. The Jarl lives at the sumptuous(luxurious) Blue Palace; which is constructed atop the huge, natural arch that the city rests on, affording spectacular views over the Sea of Ghosts and Hjaalmarch to the east. Solitude's accessible docks and wharves are in the relatively calm waters, making the trade one of the many reasons why it is the wealthiest city in Tamriel. Regardless of Solitude's glory, Haafingar is the smallest hold in Tamriel. It also appears to be the most remote, and is separated from Hjaalmarch by the Karth River and from The Reah by mountains. Dragon Bridge is the only access to the hold by road, crossing the Karth River. Much of the hold is rocky and mountainous with soaring snowy mountains surrounding the north and west of Solitude, though the lower lying areas including Dragon Bridge to Sollitude are mostly comprised of forests and hills.
Notable Settlement(s): Thalmor Headquarters, Imperial Empire headquarters, The Bard's College
Hold Name: Winterhold Hold
Side: Stormcloak Rebellion
Jarl: Korir
Capital Symbol: a Crown
About: Winterhold Hold, sometimes known as "The Winterhold" is one of the four oldest holds in Tamriel, known collectively as the Old Holds. Before the Civil War, The Winterhold's capital Winterhold City was also the capital of Tamriel. The hold is located on the north-east corner of Tamriel. It is a vastly cold region, most of the hold is covered in snowy tundra plains and night mountain ranges. Along the coast is a polar environment of glaciers and icebergs. Surrounding holds include Eastmarch to the south and The Pale to the west. Once a source of pride of residents, the College of Winterhold became a hated institution, a reminder of all they had lost during the Great Collapse and slow death of the town. The town sees little business these days, except from nobles looking for enchantments, due to the fact that Winterhold is so out of the way.
Notable Settlement(s): College of Winterhold
Hold Name: Eastmarch
Side: Stormcloak Rebellion
Jarl: Ulfric Stormcloak
Capital Symbol: Bear's head
About: Eastmarch is located on the eastern border, it is one of the four oldest holds in Tamriel, known collectively as the Old Holds. The capital city of Eastmarch is Windhelm, near the northern border. This hold covers much of Tamriel's eastern border with Morrowind. The surrounding holds are Winterhold to the north, The Pale and Whiterun to the south. The central and south of Eastmarch is a volcanically active area, plains with steaming gas leaking between cracks in the ground with colorful, mineral filled bodies of water and geysers. The far west of the hold resembles much of the rest of central Tamriel, and to the north stands a mountainous tundra where the capitol lies.
Notable Settlement(s): N/A
Hold Name: Whiterun Hold
Side: Neutral
Jarl: Balgruuf
About: Whiterun Hold is the largest of the hold, and is located at the center of mainland Tamriel. This hold features a wide variety of geographical features including; rolling plains, green hills, and snow-capped mountains including the Throat of the World(tallest peak of Tamriel). Along with being geographically located in the center of Tamriel, Whiterun Hold is the hub of trading and a core part of the country's economy. Whiterun Hold's capitol is Whiterun City, also featuring two large towns names Riverwood and Rorikstead. Whiterun Hold's economy is helped by the major trading and business in Whiterun City, the sawmill business in Riverwood, and five farms--three of which are located just outside of Whiterun City and the other two in Rorikstead. Whiterun City is the mose "pure Nordic" city in Tamriel. In Whiterun, Nords live as they have for centuries: their lives are simple, harsh, and rooted in ancient traditions. Though they prefer to be labeled "neutral" in the war, their culture exemplifies what it means to be a "true Nord,"
